SUMMARY:5k Run & Walk for Conservation
DESCRIPTION:On May 25, 2026, participants will gather at Stoke for a 5k adventure through open fields, rolling hills, and dense forest along Little River. Participants will take their own comfortable pace (runners and walkers welcome) on a specific course around the farm, which is just under 300 acres and sits on one of the highest points between the Bull Run & Blue Ridge mountains.\nStoke, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1840 and renovated by Colonel Floyd W. Harris in 1907. Around 1910, he added the barns to support a dairy operation and house his work horses. The dairy ran for more than 50 years before the barns were converted in the 1970s by his grandson, George Morison, into a 14‑stall horse barn. For the next four decades, he leased the barns to equine entrepreneurs to help sustain the estate.\nIn 2011, Dulany Morison and his future wife, Eleanor, began an extensive renovation of the barns and grounds. Today, the property operates as a thriving horse‑boarding facility serving foxhunters.\nParticipants should be prepared to traverse rugged uneven terrain, including very steep hills.\nThis event is open to all ages, but participants aged 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.\nAll participants are required to sign a waiver.\nThe afternoon will conclude with snacks, drinks, and camaraderie.\nClick here to register!
